HONOURABLE MINISTER MANQOBA KHUMALO OFFICIALLY OPENS SPAR SUPERMARKET AND TOPS IN PIGG’S PEAK

Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade cutting a ribbon to officially open the shop

On Wednesday, 24th April 2024, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo officially opened Spar supermarket and Tops at the new Mini Mall in Pigg’s Peak, developed by NLP Investment (Pty) Ltd, valued at E75 million. Speaking during the occasion, Minister Khumalo expressed how significant the project would contribute to the development and growth of the local economy in terms of job creation.

“Pigg’s Peak has long been known for its breath-taking natural beauty and charming rural lifestyle. However, in recent years, the town has experienced a surge in development that promises to transform Pigg’s Peak into a thriving hub of economic activity. The recent development is set to revolutionize the town’s economic landscape and create a wealth of employment opportunities for the local community”, the Minister said. It is worth mentioning that the establishment of Spar supermarket and Tops has already made a positive impact in Pigg’s Peak, through the creation of numerous employment opportunities. A total of eighty-two (82) full-time employees have been recruited, of which 30 are males and 52 are females.

The occasion was also graced by the presence of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Honourable Appolo Maphalala who was represented by the Principal Secretary, Dr. Simon Zwane. In his remarks, Minister Maphalala said “as a Ministry we advocate for the creation of 24-hour towns and cities, wherein people work, live and have fun; therefore, the establishment of this roof top restaurant supports that vision”. The Mayor, Councillor Sipho Shongwe acknowledged the investor for choosing to invest in Pigg’s Peak. “Credit goes to Mr. Biswajit Barua, for taking such a huge risk by investing in Pigg’s Peak town and I must mention that as a local authority we will continue to support him in his other planned developments in town, through providing sound civil engineering and town planning advice” the Mayor said. Also present were Pigg’s Peak Member of Parliament, Jabulani Mabuza, SPAR Lowveld DC Managing Director, Ms Wilma Mahne and Project Financier Swaziland Building Society Managing Director, Ms. Mbali Sibanyoni.
