On Sunday, 08th October 2023, Pigg’s Peak Town Council hosted the Mayor’s Pool Tournament under the theme “Keep the black ball rolling, stop Gender Based Violence” with the main aim of promoting a healthy competitive attitude and address all social ills such as GBV and drug abuse that exist in the community of Pigg’s Peak.
Council in partnership with the Royal Eswatini Police Services under the Crime Prevention unit was able to sensitize the public about the importance of HIV testing, condom usage, refraining from drug abuse as well as gender-based violence. The tournament saw four teams participating and competing for the grand prize, which was a total amount of E1 500.00, a trophy and gold medals.
Speaking during the tournament, Mayor Sipho Shongwe said it was imperative for the town to have initiatives similar to the pool tournament as it encouraged participants to realize their talents. Shongwe further stressed on how sports in general were a proper tool for helping the youth refrain from drug abuse.
