UPGRADE OF Nazarene road 1 TO BITUMEN STANDARD

Pigg’s Peak Town Council embarked on a project of upgrading Nazarene Road1 from gravel to bitumen standard in line with our five-year Integrated Development Plan (IDP). The road that was upgraded is Nazarene Road1, located in our industrial area, south of the urban area and measures about 900m in length. Designs of the road were done by GIBB Engineering Consultants during 2013/14 financial year, through funding sourced from the World Bank, under the Swaziland Local Government Project (SLGP). The tender for construction works, was awarded to Pots Construction (Pty) Ltd, for a contract price of E7,565,977.65, funded through the SLGP as well as funds from Council’s own source. Construction commenced on 13thMay 2015 and project was handed over to Council on 13th November 2015.

Benefits of this project to the town’s residents and business community

The project has resulted in the creation of job opportunities during the construction phase and we are optimistic that the road upgrade will attract investors to our industrial area, resulting in the creation of the much needed job opportunities. Secondly, infrastructure development is also a important aspect of improving service delivery, as it enables motorists to drive safely even during the rainy season.

Conclusion

Through the implementation of such a flagship project, as a town we are taking positive strives towards the realisation of our vision of being “a vibrant economic hub transforming the Northern Hhohho region into a preferred tourist destination” , thus contributing towards the attainment of the national vision of first world status by 2022.
