16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER BASED VIOLENCE- Advocating for the end of GBV should be a culture

The 16 days of activism against gender-based violence has become a refresher campaign for P.P.T.C to engage women from the six wards to voice out their opinions about strategies to be used to help those that endures the impacts of GBV.

The 2nd December, saw Council successfully commemorating the campaign under the international theme “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls” which invited everyone to play their role in ending violence against women and girls, show support and solidarity to women’s rights activists and resist the rollback on women’s rights.

Speaking during the commemoration event, the Deputy Mayor, Mrs. Thembisile Ngcamphalala said “if our women in this town are not healthy and safe, then they cannot care for themselves, support their families or contribute to their communities. It is therefore every man’s responsibility to teach the next generation by leading as an example to protect, value and respect women”.

Other organizations that were part of the event were; One Billion Rising, SWAGAA and Men Engage Network.
